The ALMADA Way

The ALMADA Way

On Coats, Considered Wardrobes and Foundational Dressing

Tell us a little about ALMADA LABEL and how it first came about.

We founded ALMADA LABEL in 2020, driven by a shared desire to create the kind of wardrobe we were constantly searching for ourselves. Having both worked in the fashion industry for over a decade, we felt there was a gap between contemporary fashion and traditional luxury — beautifully made, timeless pieces with a strong design identity, but at a more attainable price point.

From the very beginning, our vision was to create a seasonless wardrobe built around quality, longevity and versatility. What started as a relatively small collection of elevated essentials has since grown into a much broader wardrobe, but the philosophy behind the brand remains exactly the same.

Where do you find inspiration, both for the collections and in your own personal style?

Inspiration often comes from observing the way people actually dress. We love noticing the small details; the proportions of a coat, the way someone has casually wrapped a scarf, or how an otherwise very simple outfit can feel incredibly interesting through texture and silhouette.

Architecture, interiors, vintage fashion and travelling are also constant sources of inspiration. We’re particularly drawn to things that have a certain quiet confidence, where the beauty lies in the proportions, materials and details rather than anything too obvious.

Our personal styles naturally influence the collections as well. We design pieces that we genuinely want to wear ourselves, but we’re also constantly thinking about how they fit into a woman’s existing wardrobe and everyday life.

What does your own approach to getting dressed look like day to day?

I tend to dress quite intuitively, and I have a very consistent personal style. I gravitate towards neutral colours, beautiful materials and relaxed but considered silhouettes. I love the idea of looking put together without looking like you’ve spent too much time thinking about your outfit.

For me, it’s often about proportions and layering. A simple knit with tailored trousers, a long coat, or a leather skirt with an oversized sweater. I also love playing with different textures within the same colour palette.

What are your current favourite pieces from ALMADA LABEL, and why?

It’s always difficult to choose, because every piece has gone through such a long design process and naturally feels quite personal to us.

The Mara Coat is definitely one of those pieces that represents ALMADA perfectly. It’s timeless, beautifully proportioned and can completely transform even the simplest outfit. I also find myself constantly reaching for our cashmere knitwear, particularly the more relaxed silhouettes that work with almost everything.

Lately, I’ve been especially drawn to our leather pieces and more tailored silhouettes. I love the contrast of something structured with a really soft knit, or combining different materials in an otherwise monochromatic look.

When you’re designing, what makes a piece feel like something someone will want to keep and wear for years?

I think longevity starts with the design itself. We always ask ourselves whether we would still want to wear a piece five or ten years from now, and whether it can be styled in several different ways.

We spend a lot of time refining proportions, fits and details. Sometimes the smallest adjustment makes the biggest difference. It’s often about knowing when to stop designing and allowing the material and silhouette to speak for themselves.

Quality is obviously essential, but longevity is also emotional. A piece needs to make you feel good every time you put it on. When something fits beautifully, feels comfortable and works effortlessly with the rest of your wardrobe, you naturally want to keep wearing it.

“It’s often about knowing when to stop designing and allowing the material and silhouette to speak for themselves.”

What are the foundational pieces you think every wardrobe benefits from?

A beautifully tailored coat, a really good cashmere knit, well-fitting trousers, a versatile blazer and a simple skirt are pieces I think you can build an entire wardrobe around.

I also think it’s important to invest in pieces that allow you to create different silhouettes through layering. A fine turtleneck, for example, is something I wear constantly underneath shirts, knits and blazers.

But ultimately, I don’t think there is one universal wardrobe that works for everyone. The most important thing is understanding your own style and lifestyle, and investing in pieces that you genuinely wear rather than what you feel you’re supposed to own.

How has the way you shop personally changed since starting ALMADA LABEL?

I’ve become much more selective, and I think I appreciate the craftsmanship behind a product on an entirely different level now.

When you understand how much work goes into developing a beautiful garment — from sourcing the materials to perfecting the fit and construction — you start looking at clothes differently.

These days, when I buy something, I want it to feel really special or fill a genuine gap in my wardrobe. I’d much rather own fewer things that I absolutely love.

“I’d much rather own fewer things that I absolutely love.”

If we looked inside your wardrobes, what would we find that might surprise us?

Probably just how many versions of almost the same thing we own! When you know exactly what you like, you tend to gravitate towards similar silhouettes and colours.

My wardrobe is very neutral, and I have an unreasonable number of black pieces that might look identical to someone else, but to me they’re all completely different.

I think people might also be surprised by how much I repeat the same outfits. I really don’t feel the need to constantly wear something new, even though I work in fashion. If I love something, I want to wear it as much as possible.

What are you most excited about for ALMADA LABEL over the next year?

We’re entering a really exciting chapter for ALMADA. The past year has been full of important milestones, from our first runway show at Copenhagen Fashion Week to expanding our presence with some of the world’s most respected luxury retailers.

Over the next year, we’re particularly excited about continuing to strengthen our international presence and bringing ALMADA to new audiences and markets.

Creatively, we’re constantly exploring new materials and categories, silhouettes and ways to evolve the ALMADA wardrobe, while staying true to our original vision. Growth is wonderful, but for us, it’s equally important to make sure the brand becomes stronger, more distinctive and more considered as it evolves.
